We have provided pages full of content.  This demo limits the number of gizmos that can be placed.  You start customizing this wiki by clicking on "turn edit on" next to your name at the bottom of the screen.  A page management bar moves to the bottom of the page.  You can move it to the top with the up arrow at the left end of the bar.  Details about the bar can be found in the FAQ .  You will have to edit this wiki to remove some of the gizmos so you can add your own.

Our wiki style design process is easier.  All of the wiki labels, the wiki logo, and the layout of the wiki are customizable.  The design can vary by page.  You can use this product to build your own website.  Take a look at www.noeq.net. 

The wiki content placement process is more intuitive.  All of the content placement gizmos (news manager, rss manager, etc.) are selectable for placement from the page management toolbar that is at the bottom of the page.  The user does not have to leave the page to add and activate gizmos.  All other wikis require you to go to multiple pages to find the gizmos that you want. 

Gizmos are placed into panels and the user reorganizes the page by dragging and dropping the panels/gizmos.  Panels/gizmos containing content can be cut or copied and pasted into a different page in the wiki.  If the user reorganizes the wiki, adding pages, changing access rights, etc. all of the gizmos and their content can be moved around.  If you accidentally delete a panel/gizmo, we have an undo function.

Gizmo functionality is superior.  The text editor gizmo is a WYSIWYG tool with table creation, graphic image and flash file embedding, hypertext linking to any element in the document, and other advanced functions.  It can be used to embed code snippets into the wiki; we added a slide show player from ning.com into our internal wiki. 

All gizmos that contain multiple entries (file manager, discussion forum, etc.) generate a unique rss url.  These rss urls are accessible from other pages or from external rss readers or rss-enabled browsers.  

Permissions management maximizes the wiki functionality.  For example, visiblity of and access to panels/gizmos and pages can be controlled at the user and group level. On the same page, some gizmos can be visible while others are invisible.  You can have gizmos on a page with different permissions.  Everyone should be able to add their two cents to a discussion forum, but not everyone should be adding news items.  There is page-based rights inheritance or specific rights can be assigned per page.   

This combination of techniques and tools is unique to Metadot.  Our is more useable, more intuitive.  It can be fun to edit and add content to the wiki so more people will be involved in the growth.  One of the most significant reasons that users abandon wikis is that they thought they could add content and it turns out that it is very difficult to do.  The Metadot Wiki will give you the best shot at keeping everyone involved.
